Dobzhansky, Genetics and the Origin of Species

This map shows the geographical distribution of fly varieties, as recorded by Theodosius Dobzhansky during his research travels across the American West. Following the tradition of earlier naturalists like Darwin, Dobzhansky returned to the field to investigate nature. His observations of flies “in the wild” coincided with earlier laboratory experiments, supported theoretical predictions by population geneticists, and confirmed Darwin’s theory of natural selection.
