FitzRoy, Narrative

Read this book online</a>.">This book, though first published under Captain FitzRoy’s name, was based on the diary Darwin kept during his voyage aboard the Beagle. The frontispiece illustration, a European portrayal of a Tierra del Fuego native, highlights Darwin’s observations of human behavior on the trip. While less known than his work on plants and animals, his encounters with South American peoples informed his ideas about human nature and origins. Darwin’s account, now known as The Voyage of the Beagle, was both an important scientific work and a bestselling travel narrative.
