Darwin, Geological Observations

This image shows the geological structure of a South American mountain range that Darwin had observed during his Beagle voyage. Much of Darwin’s early work was devoted to geological subjects, and, early on, he referred to himself as a geologist. It was only after the publication of Origin of Species that he became better known for his biological theories.
