Darwin, The Expression of the Emotions: animals

Darwin spent many hours at the London Zoo observing apes such as the ones shown here.  He reported his findings in this book, suggesting many similarities between animal and human expressions. Not only were human bodies descended from distant animal ancestors, he argued, but so too were human emotions and intellect, and perhaps even moral and aesthetic principles.
